Pregnancy
Glucose tolerance test (OGTT) test
Also called OGTT, GTT, glucose challenge, GCT, gestational diabetes test
Blood sugar before and after drinking a measured glucose drink (usually 75 g).
- Preparation
- Usually fasting; you stay at the lab for 2 hours without eating.
Why it's done
Checks for gestational diabetes at 24–28 weeks of pregnancy, or for diabetes when other tests are borderline.
What a high result can mean
In pregnancy (75 g test), fasting 92 or more, 1 hour 180 or more, or 2 hours 153 mg/dL or more means gestational diabetes. Some Indian centres use a single 2-hour value of 140 or more (DIPSI).
